Anchoring the European Route of Jewish Cultural Heritage in Hannover / Lower Saxony / Germany
In 1987, the Council of Europe recognised the Camino de Santiago as “1st European Cultural Route”,
- to visualize the common cultural identity of European citizens,
- to enhance European cultural heritage and
- to promote the social, economic and cultural European cultural development through a cultural tourism based upon this.
37 more routes followed, including the European Route of Jewish Cultural Heritage / AEPJ in 2004 – but so far without German participation!
Our association GPH has set itself the task of anchoring the route in Germany, starting from the capital of Lower Saxony. The foundation for this will be laid in 2021, on the occasion of the 1,700th anniversary of the first Jewish community on German soil.
“Fundamental elements” are historically and contemporarily relevant topics as well as the active involvement of relevant stakeholders.
Virtual building blocks in 2021
- Click & Walk photo workshops
through which the participants acquire Jewish places with the camera and put them in the limelight in the form of an exhibition - a professional and meeting event
with representatives of all European routes of the Jewish cultural heritage as well as - a composition competition
through which young Jews make the interrelationship between personal situation, zeitgeist and their respective environment musically perceptible.
The intention is to illustrate the contribution of Judaism to social development, to counteract discrimination against Jews and to contribute to the preservation of creation in the sense of (ecological) sustainability.
Subsequently, we will continuously provide you with more detailed information here!
